Apsara' Kalamkari with Zari Pure Banarasi Silk Saree
An art of hand painting style involving about 23 steps. Kalamkari is made by using natural dyes from plants and vegetables, and then boiled in milk for proper fixation of color due to which the fabric has a distinct milk smell. This is a laborious process which includes repeated washing and boiling with milk, to fix colour each time the fabric is painted with new colour. The most important thing about washing of kalamkari fabric during manufacturing is that the fabric must be washed in a flowing water source like a river as in case of Srikalahasti the city is based on the bank of river Swarnmukhi.
